The temperature inside the shelter felt down to -18 Celsius, outdoors -25 Celsius. Cleaning up the frozen alpaca poop piles is an easy job; the solid manure is frozen into one pack and handy to transport to the composter. Sheep and alpacas are normally feeling comfortable enough in their winter fleeces, even when the temperature is below 20 Celsius. But Antonella was visibly freezing. Her fleece is not that thick and she needed help to keep warm. We dressed her with a winter pony blanket. Antonella enjoyed the warm blanket but while dressed she caused panic – not for our alpacas, but for our sheep! Sheep must have perceived her as a “big blue stranger in the shelter” 🙂
Now, we have again normal winter, with safe frost temperatures. Our alpacas and sheep enjoy the mild weather while walking in the yard.
